On Friday we raised alot of money for Children in Need.
First of all we had to make posters to put up around the school to let the children know how we planned to raise some money.
Then we had to go round the classes collecting lots of 1p, 2p and 5p's. Some of the tubs had so much money in them that they were too heavy for us to carry back to class!
Then in the afternoon we worked very hard with the girls and boys in P1F and P1A to make big Pudsey and Blush bears.

The Fire Station
Our visit to the library
We went a visit to the library. The librarian began by reading us 'The Rainbow Fish'.
Then we got to look in the staff area. We saw where the library vans stay and went into a cold room where they they keep the old books. We even got to see a collection of old butterflies!
Then we got some time to relax and read some of the books in the library.

Friday 1st October
On Monday we learned the c sound. Then we made some crazy clowns with
shredded paper and felt.
We have been learning about the sun, moon and stars this week. We made lovely
star pictures with chalk.
We also worked out why we have day and night. We set up an experiement to show this with a torch as the sun and a globe of the earth. Olivia told us that when it's day in Orkney, it's night in Australia. We looked at this during our experiment to help us understand why.
This week we all became authors and wrote our own books. We had to include a front cover and pages with pictures and writing on them. We also had to think of how to bind our pages together.
As it was raining on Wednesday we didn't get outside for a break so we went to the hall to practise relay races, we did some running, jumping and hopping races. Then we got to have a race on the space hoppers! It was great fun!

Friday 24th September
We took a little break from our 'Once Upon a Rhyme' topic to learn about the outdoors during autumn. During our week of the 'Oot and Aboot' topic we learned about the weather, transport and animals. We made some spiky hedgehogs. We really enjoyed putting all the spikes in!
We also went out into the playground to do a car survey. We counted the number of red, blue, green and black cars that drove past the school.
This week we went on a sound walk round the Peedie Sea. We heard cars, boats, birds, dogs barking and our waterproof trousers rustling as we walked! Then we went into the trees to find things with different textures. There was slippery leaves, rough tree stumps, sticky wet mud and lots more.
On Tuesday we learned about number 8. We practised writing it in sand. It was really good fun because the light shined through to show the number we had made with our fingers!
On Wednesday we learned about the letter n. Then we built a birds nest with twigs.

A very busy Class 1
Class 1 are now in school for full days and have been very busy.
We went on our very first class trip this week to Muddisdale. Despite the rain we had a great time as we were all dressed in our waterproofs and wellies. We had to find as many different flowers and leaves as we could.
The dentist came to visit us on Wednesday. We got to brush the toys teeth, we had to remember to use circular brush strokes. We also learned about foods that are good for our teeth.
This week we began to use our Activity Caterpillars. They tells us what work we have to do and the order to do it in. We like moving our small caterpillars along as we complete the different tasks.

We read the story about the Hungry Caterpillar. We counted the different fruits he ate.
We each made a part of the caterpillars body. All the pieces joined up to make the Hungry Caterpillar!
We have also been learning about numbers 1 and 2. We practiced writing the numbers in shaving foam, it was great fun!
We also made our own Penguin One using different coloured card.
